Ursus International Conservation Institute

Ursus International Conservation Institute is a Canadian registered non-profit organisation and consultancy that is dedicated to the conservation of bears and their habitat.   We seek to further the conservation of all the species of bears by creating a sympathetic and informed attitude towards them that is based on an understanding of the critical situations facing their populations.

Ursus also provides tourism and expedition guiding services, lectures and programming at all levels, consulting services for industry, film, television and other media, and training in bear encounter and conflict management for expedition guides, industry, wildlife management staff, homeowners groups and individuals.

Ursus also supplies bear deterrent equipment.   While recognizing that conflict with bears can result in a need for lethal force, Ursus’ work is predicated on the fact that the vast majority of the time, it does not need to, and is oriented towards non-lethal management wherever possible. Please contact us for any further information.

Josh Newman Design
Josh is passionate about documenting the world around him. This passion has seen him researching Sooty Shearwaters in New Zealand’s sub-Antarctic, filming active volcanoes in Vanuatu and cruising the ice-laden channels of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Trained in wildlife documentary, Josh studied film and design prior to completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Natural History Filmmaking and Communication with Natural History New Zealand and the University of Otago.

His other passions include photography, sailing, mountain biking, surfing, sea kayaking and, it would seem, spending time huddled in small tents in bad weather. Having travelled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the Middle East, he now resides on Canada's beautiful Vancouver Island.
